Saving Money On eBay Auctions

Everybody knows that it’s easy saving money when buying stuff you need from eBay, but there are techniques you can use to make the savings even steeper.

One sneaky method is to deliberately misspell keywords when doing a search. For example, Cash Cuddler recently purchased a Kohler brand kitchen faucet at a 50% savings on eBay. The keywords when doing a search would be spelled “Kohler kitchen faucet,” but a sneaky shopper would spell it “Koler,” “kitchn” “fawcet,” etc.

The logic behind this method is that many people can’t spell, and they will be equally spelling-challenged when describing their eBay merchandise. Auctions with misspelled items receive less traffic and less bids. Bad news for the hapless seller, better discounts for you.

Also, eBay recently made changes in how their search results are presented. After typing in a keyword, you used to see all of the soonest ending auctions by default. The change was to present “Best Match” items first to the browser, favoring their high volume sellers, edging out the little guys with just a thing or two to sell. Some of the small sellers were the best sources of great deals for Cash Cuddler, so this is not favorable for bargain-hunting shoppers (nor for the small sellers).

When results come up, you can manually change your results to display how it would suit you best: Ending soonest, recently listed, etc. The smaller sellers’ results will miraculously appear after you have made this adjustment.

An example below of a common misspelling: “dimond” is used instead of the correctly-spelled keyword “diamond.”
